This bill directs the Secretary of Defense to conduct a comprehensive study on how mold growth in military housing affects the health of service members and their families. The study must examine the types of harmful mold present in military housing, detection methods, health risks from prolonged exposure, and particular concerns like respiratory illness in children and mold-related illnesses in infants. The Secretary must consult with multiple federal agencies including the CDC, EPA, HUD, and the National Academy of Sciences, and submit findings to Congress within three years of the bill's enactment. Based on the study results, the Defense Department must develop and publish model standards for preventing, detecting, and remediating mold in military housing within three years, with ongoing review every five years. The bill also requires the military to develop construction standards for new housing to prevent mold growth and to train military health professionals on recognizing and treating mold-related illnesses.
