The Winner

If you live in California's 2nd U.S. House District, you will continue to be represented in Congress by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA), who has been declared the winner of the 2026 congressional race, according to the Associated Press as reported by the New York Times. The Associated Press called the race, though general-election vote totals are still being counted and no certified figures are yet available, so vote shares and a margin cannot be reported at this time. The seat stays in Democratic hands.

The Race

Republican Robin Littau advanced from the June 2, 2026, top-two primary to face Huffman in the general election. Cook Political Report rated the seat Solid Democratic heading into Election Day, a rating Inside Elections shared.

In that June primary, Huffman took about 56.5 percent of the vote, nearly five times Littau's roughly 11.4 percent share. Huffman's 139,647 primary votes exceeded the combined total of the next four candidates by about 60,066 votes.

The district spans Del Norte, Humboldt, Marin, Mendocino (part), Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sonoma (part), and Trinity counties, according to the California Secretary of State, and has a total population of about 755,468 and a median household income of about $98,747, according to Geographies data for the district. The district's residents have a median age of about 44.8 years, with roughly 43.2 percent of adults holding a bachelor's degree or higher, an unemployment rate of about 6.6 percent, and about 11.2 percent living below the poverty line.

Huffman is set to take office on Jan. 3, 2027, as established by the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Huffman is expected to become chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, where he says he will pursue an affirmative policy agenda while holding the Trump administration accountable, according to The Press Democrat, which reported his comments on Nov. 3, 2026.
