The Democrat Caught Between Parties
Jared Moskowitz, a Representative from Florida who represents the state's 25th congressional district, a swing seat in the redrawn district, won the Democratic primary and will face Republican former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer on Nov. 3.
Moskowitz represents Florida's 25th congressional district and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Intelligence Subcommittee. He also sits on the House Judiciary Committee. He served as a Parkland city commissioner from 2006 to 2012, in the Florida state House from 2012 to 2019, and as director of the Florida Department of Emergency Management from 2019 to 2021. Governor Ron DeSantis appointed him to both the emergency management post and, later, to the Broward County Commission.
A Maverick's Record
He is the only Democrat in the Department of Government Efficiency caucus and has cosponsored 123 Republican bills alongside 182 Democratic ones. He voted for the Laken Riley Act. He has also teamed up with conservative Representative Tim Burchett to push for federal transparency on unidentified aerial phenomena.
He sparred with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter over antisemitism and denounced pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses. During a House Oversight Committee hearing, he got into a shouting match with Representative James Comer, who called him a "smurf." In another hearing, Moskowitz wore a Vladimir Putin mask to accuse Republicans of carrying water for Russia.
In November 2024, police informed Moskowitz he was the target of an attempted assassination. President Donald Trump reportedly considered him to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but Moskowitz took himself out of consideration for the position.
He was born on December 18, 1980, and earned degrees from George Washington University and Nova Southeastern University's law school.
