The Vote
Kansas's 4th District representative voted against a resolution directing the removal of U.S. Armed Forces in Lebanon from military hostilities. The congressional floor vote measure, introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-12), failed to advance on June 30.
Rep. Ron Estes voted No on the measure. His vote aligned with the Republican majority position, which opposed the resolution. Republicans voted 2 in favor and 212 against, while Democrats voted 187 in favor and 22 against. Overall, the resolution received 189 votes in favor and 235 votes against in the House, falling short of passage. One Independent also voted against the resolution.
H.Con.Res.108 directs the President to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities in Lebanon pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution. The resolution would require withdrawal of U.S. Armed Forces from Lebanon within seven days of adoption, while preserving the ability to continue security cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces and protect American diplomatic facilities. It does not authorize new military action.
The resolution was introduced on June 3 and referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. It attracted 43 Democratic cosponsors, with no Republican cosponsors.
