Who's In the Race
Republicans are looking like they will take Florida's 2nd district congressional seat on Nov. 3. Republican Austin Rogers and Democrat Amanda Green will face each other in the general election, an open seat with no incumbent on the ballot. Both nominees advanced from certified Aug. 18 primaries.
What They Stand For
Rogers, a Republican, backs President Donald Trump's "America First" agenda, opposes illegal immigration, and describes securing the border as a priority. He says he would draw on his legal and legislative experience to protect the rights of American citizens.
According to her campaign website, Green pledges to reduce costs for families within the district with a focus on fighting corporate price-gouging and expanding access to affordable housing. Green also supports expanding access to Medicare and reducing costs of healthcare, as well as banning members of Congress from owning and trading individual stocks.
The Money Behind the Race
According to FEC filings, Rogers has more than $12 million in cash on hand, while Green has just over $348,000. Meanwhile, in outside spending, the Panhandle Patriots PAC spent $1,386,340 in support of Rogers.
Race Outlook: Ratings and Betting Markets
Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections each rated the race "Solid Republican" as of late September and early October, and a consensus rating matched that label as of Oct. 2.
On Kalshi, the prediction market gave Republicans a 90% chance of winning the seat and Democrats about a 10% chance, as of Oct. 5.
The district has backed Republicans in recent cycles: the Republican candidate won with about 60% of the vote in 2022 and about 62% in 2024. In the 2024 presidential race, Republican Donald Trump carried the entire state of Florida with about 56% of the vote.
