The Winner
Sarah Elfreth, a Democrat, will keep representing Maryland's 3rd Congressional District after winning re-election to her U.S. House seat on Nov. 3.
Elfreth took roughly 74.8% of the vote in Maryland's 3rd U.S. House District race, winning by about 49 points over her closest opponent, according to current certified results from the Maryland State Board of Elections.
The seat stayed with the Democratic Party.
The Race
Bernard (Berney) Flowers won the Republican primary on June 23. The general election ballot also included two additional candidates. Elfreth is the incumbent, having held the seat going into Election Day.
Flowers entered the general having won the Republican primary with roughly 49.0% of the vote, meaning a majority of Republican primary voters chose someone other than the eventual nominee.
Cook Political Report and Inside Elections both rated the race "Solid Democratic," while Sabato's Crystal Ball rated it "Safe Democratic," according to Ballotpedia.
What's Next
Elfreth is set to be sworn in on January 3, 2027, under the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In responses to the Maryland Matters 2026 general-election voter guide, Elfreth said she would continue opposing efforts to restrict ballot access and support federal protections against racial discrimination in voting.
