Who's In the Race
It is one of the most closely watched and tightest guberntorial races in the country.
Republican incumbent Greg Abbott is running for reelection as Texas governor against Democrat Gina Hinojosa in today's, general election. The seat is not open, and Republican Greg Abbott, the incumbent, is running for reelection.
Both nominees won their March 3 primaries: Abbott took the Republican contest with 82 percent of the vote, pulling 1,764,924 ballots out of 2,156,879 cast, while Hinojosa won the Democratic primary with about 59 percent of the vote, receiving 1,289,576 of the 2,203,671 Democratic primary votes recorded.
Endorsements
Abbott and Hinojosa have each drawn a high-profile national endorsement heading into November.
Donald Trump has endorsed Abbott, according to a November 2025 Texas Tribune report. Trump carried Texas by 14 percentage points in 2024.
Hinojosa earned an endorsement from Barack Obama.
Race Outlook: Ratings and Polling
All four major forecasters rate Texas's governor's race the same way. Cook Political Report and Sabato's Crystal Ball both rate the race Lean Republican, updated Oct. 28; Inside Elections rates it Lean Republican, updated Oct. 23; and the consensus rating is also Lean Republican, updated Oct. 23.
Aggregated across 82 polls, Abbott leads Hinojosa 49 percent to 47 percent, a margin of 2.1 percentage points, as of Nov. 1 — two days before Election Day. That gap is far narrower than Abbott's 11-point margin of victory over Democrat Beto O'Rourke in 2022, when Abbott won with 55 percent of the vote. A two-point polling lead is well within the range where upsets happen, which is consistent with the Lean — rather than Likely or Safe — ratings from forecasters.
