About

The general purposes and objects of the fund shall be as follows: a) to promote improved health and safety for employees, retirees, and their families; b) to identify, research, collect and distribute information about the health and safety risks and status of employees, retirees, and their families, and about the effectiveness of measures to protect and improve the health and safety of employees and their families; c) to develop and promote programs to prevent or minimize disease, injury and premature death among employees, retirees, and their families; d) to promote education of employees, retirees, and their families about health and safety issues and programs; e) to develop and promote improvements in the delivery of health care services for employees, retirees, and their families by health care providers and health plans; f) to promote the efficient and effective use of available health care programs by employees, retirees, and their families; g) to promote the development, adoption and improvement of health and safety programs for employees, retirees, and their families by employee benefit plans, liuna, liuna affiliates, employers, governments, and other organizations; h) to facilitate the FLOW of information and cooperation among employee benefit plans covering employees, retirees, and their families; i) to develop and distribute information, materials, programs, goods and services concerning health and safety issues affecting employees, retirees, and their families; j) to promote communication and cooperation among liuna, its affiliates, employers and governmental bodies concerning health and safety issues; k) to develop and promote health and safety record-keeping and notification systems for employees, and their families; l) to promote the fund and its programs to liuna, liuna affiliates, employee benefit plans, employers, governments, other organizations, and the general public; m) to advise governmental bodies and officials about health and safety matters that affect or may affect employees, retirees, and their families; n) to cooperate with health care institutions, governmental bodies and other private and public organizations that share the concerns of the fund; o) to solicit and obtain financing for the fund from ANY and ALL lawful sources consistent with the fund's TAX-exempt status and applicable law, including employers, employer associations, employee benefit plans, employees, liuna, liuna affiliates, liuna-sponsored organizations, foundations, governmental bodies, and the general public; and p) to otherwise implement the purposes and provisions of section 6(b) of the u.s. Labor management cooperation ACT of 1978 (public law 95-524) and of comparable provisions of canadian federal and provincial law that are not inconsistent with the fund's u.s. TAX-exempt status and other applicable u.s. LAWS.
