Today's @USOCC report exposes how far Biden-era debanking went to pressure banks to cut off Americans for their politics, faith, and lawful businesses. My Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee has exposed this overreach since our first hearing on Operation Choke Point 2.0 and in our report on Biden's debanking of digital assets. @FinancialCmte is working to end debanking for good. My SAFE Guidance Act stops regulators from using unofficial guidance to pressure banks, and @RepAndyBarr’s FIRM Act permanently ends the "reputation risk" standard Biden regulators used to discourage institutions from banking lawful industries like firearms and crypto. Thank you to @USComptroller Gould and OCC for their work to expose this overreach, and I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure a future administration cannot repeat Biden’s mistakes.
I had a great time visiting the Columbia Montour Area Vocational-Technical School in Bloomsburg today. Vocational and technical schools provide students with affordable programs that train our workforce for tomorrow’s competitive careers. I have been a strong advocate for vocational and technical programs and their students by fighting to expand Workforce Pell Grant eligibility and supporting the House passage of the Connecting Small Businesses with Career and Technical Education Graduates Act. Thank you to everyone at Columbia Montour Area Vocational-Technical School for having me, and to the culinary students for providing a great lunch.
Today, I joined members of the Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce for their legislative lunch. During the event, Chamber President & CEO Christian Berleth moderated a discussion between Alan Novak and T.J. Rooney on the areas where both parties can collaborate to deliver results for the American people. As a member of the Problem Solver’s Caucus, I’m committed to finding common ground and delivering bipartisan legislation that will cut through partisan gridlock. I appreciate the opportunity to participate, and thank you to all our outstanding Columbia and Montour business leaders for fueling our local economy and supporting job growth.

Today, we celebrate Columbus Day, honoring Christopher Columbus and his historic voyage of 1492, which opened a new chapter in world history and paved the way for the exploration and settlement of the Americas. Columbus’s courage and determination helped usher in an era of discovery that would ultimately shape the founding and development of the United States of America. Today is a day for Italian Americans and, of course, all Americans to reflect on our history, the great things that we have done, and our consistent pursuit to form a more perfect union Happy Columbus Day! 🇺🇸

Below are a few highlights from our work over the past two years, and the dedicated people on my staff who make it possible.
This week, I joined @FoxNews Live to discuss the findings from my @FinancialCmte Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee report on public housing authorities. Our investigation found that the Biden Administration allowed housing authorities across the country to fail, leading to unacceptable living conditions and wasting taxpayer dollars. HUD Secretary Turner and President Trump have begun implementing solutions to fix these issues, and I look forward to introducing policy that will address our findings. Watch my interview here:
For years, the Biden Administration allowed Public Housing Authorities to fail without proper support or oversight. Mismanagement and a lack of accountability at these authorities have wasted taxpayer dollars meant to support our most vulnerable citizens and led to unacceptable living conditions. As Chair of the @FinancialCmte Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I have led the effort to fight fraud in taxpayer programs and ensure our tax dollars are spent wisely on those who need them most. Today, I joined the @jfradioshow to discuss my Subcommittee’s year-long investigation into public housing, which uncovered serious mismanagement under the Biden administration. I also outlined the recommendations we made to fix these issues, which the Trump Administration has already begun to implement. Democrat administrations allowed this problem to fester for far too long. I appreciate Chairman @RepFrenchHill’s leadership, as well as President @realDonaldTrump and HUD @SecTurner for their efforts to enhance federal support for public housing and demand greater accountability.
Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out the barbaric October 7 attack on Israel, murdering more than 1,200 innocent people, including 49 Americans, and taking hundreds hostage. But Hamas did not act alone. The Iranian regime armed, funded, trained, and supported Hamas as part of its broader campaign to spread terror and chaos across the Middle East. Iran sought to derail the growing cooperation between Israel and its Arab neighbors and was willing to use Hamas and the Palestinian people as pawns to do it. Iranian weapons and support helped enable the October 7 massacre, while Tehran knew that such an attack would provoke a devastating conflict. October 7 demonstrated once again that Iran is not simply a destabilizing influence. It is the center of a terrorist network that uses proxies to attack innocent people, threaten our allies, and sow chaos throughout the region. That is why the United States must remain resolute in confronting Iran and its terrorist proxies and why this regime can never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon. President Trump has demonstrated that we can pursue peace through strength and diplomacy while resisting terrorists and the regimes that enable them. We must stand firmly against the forces of terror and work toward a lasting peace.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) announced that the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded nearly $2.8 million in federal grants to eleven fire departments across Pennsylvania’s Ninth Congressional District through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The projects funded through these grants will provide professional training, personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, firefighting and emergency response apparatus, including fire trucks, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety. “In addition to being the first to respond when fires, accidents, and disasters threaten lives and property, firefighters also provide assistance during medical emergencies, rescue operations, and other dangerous situations,” said Congressman Meuser. “Much of the funding for volunteer fire companies comes from residents through charity carnivals and other private donations. I’m pleased to play a role in securing funding for fire departments throughout our district to obtain the equipment, training, and facilities they need to do the job. Thank you to all our firefighters and everyone who supports their lifesaving work.” The Fire Departments in Pennsylvania that will benefit from these funds include: Mildred Volunteer Fire Department, Mildred, Sullivan County: $571,428 Friendship Fire Company of Englewood, Frackville, Schuylkill County: $534,952.72 Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, Newmanstown, Lebanon County: $428,346 Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department, Dorrance, Luzerne County: $342,346 Washington Fire Co. Number 1, Ashland, Schuylkill County: $328,571.42 Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association, Shenandoah, Schuylkill County: $223,636.36 Noxen Volunteer Fire Company, Noxen, Wyoming County: $141,503 Stonington Volunteer Fire Company, Stonington, Northumberland County: $120,414 Washington Fire Company Community Ambulance, Inc., Ashland, Schuylkill County: $54,285.71 William Penn Fire Co. 1, Shenandoah, Schuylkill County: $36,666.66 Sheppton-Oneida Fire Co., Sheppton, Schuylkill County: $18,428.57 About the AFG Program: The AFG Program awards grants directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations, and state fire training academies to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and first responder personnel. Using a competitive process informed by fire service subject-matter experts, the AFG Program awards grants to applicants whose requests best address its priorities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09), Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and Congressman French Hill (AR-02), Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, released a staff report examining Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) nationwide. This report is the culmination of a year-long Subcommittee-led investigation into serious mismanagement of PHAs across the country. On February 9, 2026, Chairman Meuser, Chairman Hill, and Congressman Mike Flood (NE-01), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, sent letters to 32 PHAs designated by HUD as “troubled,” seeking information on living conditions, management, and financial oversight. This was followed by an Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing examining management failures at PHAs and ways to improve conditions for residents. During the hearing, witnesses outlined severe shortcomings at PHAs due to mismanagement from previous administrations and discussed best practices for reversing the trend. On March 13, 2026, Chairman Meuser held a Subcommittee field hearing in Little Rock, Arkansas, focused on failures at the city’s PHA—the Metropolitan Housing Alliance (MHA)—and its impact on residents. Committee leadership also sent a letter to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas urging an investigation into MHA. Federal law requires PHAs to provide housing that is decent, safe, and sanitary. However, the Subcommittee’s investigation found that many troubled PHAs failed to meet these requirements due to management issues and oversight problems, resulting in significant waste of taxpayer resources and poor living conditions. The Housing Authority of Champaign County is a good example of a PHA that has implemented commonsense Trump Administration policies, such as Moving to Work (MTW) requirements and voluntary time limits, that strengthen public housing standards and promote solutions that improve financial management. “For years, the Biden Administration allowed PHAs to fail without proper support or oversight. Mismanagement and a lack of accountability in PHAs have wasted taxpayer dollars meant to support our most vulnerable citizens and led to unacceptable living conditions,” said Subcommittee Chairman Meuser. “This report shows that taxpayers and residents pay the price when leadership at PHAs falls short. Democrat administrations allowed this problem to fester for far too long. I appreciate Chairman Hill’s leadership, as well as President Trump and HUD Secretary Turner for their efforts to enhance federal support for public housing and demand greater accountability. This report supports and builds on that work to ensure that taxpayer-funded resources are well managed, and that Americans in need can benefit from decent, safe, and sanitary housing. I look forward to implementing our report’s recommendations and providing these crucial reforms to America’s most vulnerable citizens.” “Americans living in federally supported housing deserve access to housing that is safe, clean, and livable,” said Chairman Hill. “PHAs exist to deliver on that promise. Unfortunately, as we've seen firsthand in my hometown of Little Rock, too many PHAs are failing the tenants who rely on them and the taxpayers who are footing the bill. I thank Subcommittee Chairman Meuser for his work holding PHAs accountable, protecting tenants, and for advocating for responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.” “PHA accountability and addressing waste, fraud, and abuse are key priorities for President Trump, Secretary Turner, and myself. At HUD, we are committed to restoring compliance and operational integrity. Our residents need it, and taxpayers expect it. HUD will continue working with Chairman Hill and Congress to ensure America’s public housing authorities are providing quality housing to America’s most vulnerable,” said HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing Ben Hobbs. Key Findings: PHA Leadership: Frequently, PHA Boards lack sufficient understanding of housing programs to effectively manage the PHA. HUD’s Assessment Systems Disincentivize Rent Collection: HUD’s assessment system awards up to 16 points for occupancy but only 6 for rent collection, so a PHA that collects no rent can still pass HUD’s operations assessment. Between 15 and 30 percent of residents at struggling PHAs pay only the minimum rent. The COVID-era eviction moratoriums caused unpaid rent to rise sharply. Data and Due Diligence Issues: Troubled PHAs have insufficient data retention and due diligence standards across their operations, but particularly as it relates to their contracting and procurement standards. PHAs struggle to find staff: PHAs struggle to find staff with sufficient experience and understanding of their roles and responsibilities. PHAs have particularly struggled to hire and retain maintenance staff, who can often find higher pay and more flexibility as independent contractors. What HUD is Doing: Proposed rule allowing work requirements and time limits: PHAs could opt in to work requirements of up to 40 hours a week and time limits of two years or more for work-capable adults. The comment period has closed, but the rule isn't final yet. Reformed NSPIRE Inspections: HUD retrained inspectors, issued more guidance, improved its online inspection systems, and reorganized how inspectors are assigned to cut costs. It set February 1, 2027, for full implementation of these new standards. More Inspections: HUD did 25 percent more inspections in 2025 than in 2024, and PHAs say inspections have become more consistent. Took steps on safety: HUD launched a national public housing crime hotline, required stricter background checks for applicants, and rescinded guidance that had allowed people with criminal records to live in Section 9 housing. Key Report Recommendations: PHAs should develop systems and policies to enhance oversight of employees and contractors. PHAs should conduct self-inspections at least quarterly and require before-and-after photos of maintenance work. They should also digitize their records, strengthen oversight of staff and contractors, and better enforce rent collection. HUD and Congress should set baseline qualifications for PHA board members and executives and give HUD the authority to remove poor leaders. Congress should consider legislation that permanently allows for and encourages PHAs to implement time limits and work requirements on public housing assistance for able-bodied adult residents.

HARRISBURG, PA — Today, Congressman Dan Meuser (PA-09) issued the following statement after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s press conference in Harrisburg, PA, where he discussed what automatic enrollment for Trump Accounts means for Pennsylvania families. “I’d like to thank Secretary Bessent for being in Harrisburg today highlighting the opportunities that Trump Accounts are creating for Pennsylvania families,” said Congressman Meuser. “Through participatory capitalism, we are creating the opportunity for families to set their children up for financial success and empowering parents to teach their children the benefits of responsible financial management and participation in our markets. Thanks to auto-enrollment, over 60 million children now have an account that can easily be claimed by their parents. Created by the Republican’s Working Families Tax Cuts Act, Trump Accounts are giving millions of young Pennsylvanians a financial head start. I’m grateful to Secretary Bessent and President Trump for their hard work in ensuring every American child has access to the wealth-building opportunities Trump Accounts provide.” Background on Trump Accounts: Created by the GOP’s Working Families Tax Cuts Act, these tax-free investment accounts will harness the strength of financial markets to reignite the American Dream of a comfortable retirement for America’s youth. Supercharged by a one-time contribution of $1,000 from Treasury, Trump Accounts allow families to contribute up to $5,000 per year to boost their child’s long-term savings. Additionally, employers can contribute up to $2,500 per year to Trump Accounts for their employees’ children, expanding the pool of potential investments. Republicans in Congress were careful in crafting the Working Families Tax Cuts Act to ensure the healthy growth of Trump Accounts. When families invest in their child’s Trump Account, the funds are allocated to a diversified portfolio of low-cost index funds, mutual funds, or exchange-traded funds designed to maximize long-term growth while minimizing risk. With automatic enrollment complete, every eligible child under the age of eighteen with a valid Social Security number now has a Trump Account. A parent or guardian must claim the child’s automatically enrolled Trump Account to manage it and allow for family members, friends, and employers to contribute. Automatic enrollment also allows businesses, financial institutions, and philanthropists to contribute individual stocks into the accounts of thousands or even millions of children. To claim your child’s Trump Account, download the official Trump Accounts app, available for iOS and Android. During the claiming process, a parent or guardian will verify their identity and relationship to their child, review the child’s information, and accept the account terms. Eligible children born between January 21, 2025, and December 31, 2028, are eligible to receive the one-time $1,000 seed contribution. For more information, visit TrumpAccounts.gov. Since Trump Accounts went live on July 4, 2026, 7 million children have already had a Trump Account created for them by their families. With Automatic Enrollment now in effect, over 60 million additional children now have an account created in their name. According to the White House Council of Economic Advisors, Trump accounts are projected to grow anywhere from roughly $6,000 (with only the initial $1,000 federal seed and no extra contributions) to over $300,000 by age 18 if maximum annual contributions of $5,000 are made. This is money that young Americans can use for their college education, to buy a home, or other important life expenses.
I joined Bob Cordaro on the Bob Cordaro Show to discuss the stakes in this year’s election and the direction of our country. We talked about the importance of keeping the focus on the issues facing working families, including taxes, healthcare, energy, the border, education, and the size and role of government. Today’s Democrat Party is offering voters open borders, higher taxes, more government control, and policies that move our country further toward socialism. They will say anything to win, but voters deserve to know what they actually stand for and what their policies would mean for Pennsylvania. Listen to my interview here: https://t.co/WgYAtIiTRJ

It was great to join Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity at State Rep. Robert Leadbeter’s Fourth Annual Veterans Ceremony during Military Day at the Bloomsburg Fair. I enjoyed speaking with veterans from across our region and Maj. General Terrence Koudelka of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as we recognized the men and women who have served our nation. We also had the opportunity to see a Stuart tank, like those produced right here in Berwick during World War II. Pennsylvania has a proud military history, and the Bloomsburg Fair’s Military Day is always a great opportunity to recognize those who have served and those who continue to serve today. Thank you to all of our veterans and servicemembers for your service to our country.

Senate Democrats today blocked two positive, broadly supported pieces of legislation. The Ratepayer Protection Act passed the House 417-3, requiring new data centers to cover the power generation and grid costs they create rather than shifting them onto families and small businesses. Senate Democrats also blocked the House-passed congressional stock trading bill, which would prohibit Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from purchasing individual stocks. Despite the broad support for these policies, Senate Democrats fell in line with Chuck Schumer, who went so far as to call the Ratepayer Protection Act a “fraud.” This is the problem with today’s Democrat Party. They would rather block positive legislation than give President Trump and Republicans a perceived win. Why can’t Democrats work with Republicans to make America as strong, secure, and economically prosperous as possible, and then politically fight over who gets the credit? Democrats believe they gain political advantage by obstructing good policy and rely on the biased media to help them blame damaging policy on Republicans. They obstruct and then blame Republicans when Washington fails to deliver. If Democrats win the House on November 3, today is a preview of what we could see for the next two years: blocking legislation that moves America forward simply because President Trump and Republicans might get credit for it.
President @realDonaldTrump’s announcement of a new $15 billion steel plant in Iowa is a major investment in American steelmaking, American workers, and our national security. And we’re seeing that same commitment to American steel right here in Pennsylvania. U.S. Steel is making significant new investments in its Pennsylvania operations, strengthening an industry that has powered our Commonwealth and our country for generations. From expanding domestic steel production to unleashing American energy and supporting the coal and manufacturing industries that make it possible, President Trump’s policies are encouraging companies to invest and build here in the United States. Watch my interview on Mornings with @FoxBusiness, where I discuss the new steel investment, Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s recent visit to Pennsylvania, and more 🔻
