This bill designates a new Kentucky Wildlands National Heritage Area comprising 34 counties in eastern Kentucky as part of the National Heritage Area System. The Center for Rural Development would serve as the local coordinating entity responsible for managing the heritage area and developing a management plan to be submitted to the Secretary of the Interior within three years of the bill's enactment. Federal assistance for the heritage area would be available for 15 years from the date the bill becomes law, after which the authority to provide such assistance would expire. The designation aims to preserve and promote the cultural, historical, and natural resources of Kentucky's eastern wildlands region through coordinated conservation and heritage preservation efforts. This legislation amends the existing John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act to include this new heritage area component.
